Women’s Basketball Tripped Up Versus Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team returned to Centennial Conference play with a loss versus Gettysburg College,62-28, on Saturday afternoon.

After a back-and-forth first quarter that featured four lead changes, the Garnet dug themselves into a 15-point deficit after losing the second quarter 14-2. The Bullets then built on their lead throughout the second half as they won every quarter. 

Anna Hansson was the lone Garnet in double figures with 12 points, while Dana Bandurick added six points. Swarthmore struggled from the field at 24.2 percent, while Gettysburg finished at 47.7 percent. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bandurick tallied a couple layups early in the opening stanza to keep pace with the defending Centennial Champions. The senior then gave her squad the lead with a fastbreak layup following a steal with 3:41 left. The Bullets ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a three-point lead, 13-10.

- The Bullets held the Garnet scoreless for the opening nine minutes of the second quarter as they gained separation with a 14-0 swing. The Garnet ended their scoring drought with two seconds left in the half as Emily Smith connected on a pair of free throws, 27-12.

- Midway through the third, Hansson and Alyssa Hayashi strung together consecutive layups to pull Swarthmore within 20 points. The Garnet were out scored 15-10 in the quarter as they headed into the final stanza trailing by 20 points, 42-22.

- The Bullets continued to expand their lead with an 11-1 run to open the final quarter. Hansson helped light up the scoreboard with a pair of free throws and a bucket on consecutive possessions, but the Garnet were unable to overcome their growing deficit.
