Men's Basketball Picks Up Efficient Win at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's basketball team earned a much-needed dominant victory on Wednesday evening, downing rival Haverford College on the road, 91-66.

The Garnet recorded their highest point total of the season, shooting a blistering 53.1% from the field, including 14 three-pointers. Eight different players hit a three in the contest. Swarthmore also controlled the glass by a 46-26 count. Vinny DeAngelo paced the Garnet with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Aidan Godfrey registered a season-high 14 points with Michael Caprise also netting 14. Eddie Paquette posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Fords opened the contest with a three-pointer but Swarthmore came back with seven straight points to go in front. DeAngelo led the stretch with four points as the Garnet shot 3-for-4 and forced two turnovers.

- Haverford was within one (9-8) at the 14:42 mark when the Garnet pulled away with a 15-1 surge. Swarthmore shot 5-of-7, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and limited the Fords to 0-for-7 from the field. Devin Burger, Godfrey, and DeAngelo all hit from downtown during the run and the Garnet held a 24-9 advantage with 10:33 remaining.

- Haverford drilled a three at 10:15 before Swarthmore scored eight in a row to go up 20 (32-12). The Fords responded with seven unanswered to close the gap to 13 (32-19) with 6:20 on the clock. However, the Garnet dominated the next five minutes and outscored Haverford, 13-3, on the way to a 47-27 halftime lead. DeAngelo paced all scorers in the opening half with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

- Swarthmore started strong again in the second half, netting 16 of the first 21 points to make the score 63-32. The Garnet sank their first six shots, four of which came from three-point distance. Cal Hanson knocked down two of the four three-point buckets.

- The Fords had one last gasp to get back in it, using a 13-5 run to cut the deficit to 23 (76-53) with 7:42 left. However, Swarthmore answered with six in a row to squash the rally. Haverford tallied nine consecutive points late in the game to get within 20 (82-62) but it came too late for the Fords.
