Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls at Johns Hopkins, 4-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team fell to Johns Hopkins University, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.

After surrendering two goals in the opening half, the Garnet struck early in the second on a free kick from Koome Murungi. The goal marked the sophomore's first of his collegiate career.

Swarthmore narrowly outshot the Blue Jays in the opening half, but ended the game with a 12-8 shot deficit. Only two of Swarthmore's eight shots were on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore threatened with a couple looks early, but were unable to cash in on the opportunities. Following a deep Hopkins' turnover, Stathis Kalathias had a look from the center of the box, but fired a strike off the crossbar in the opening minute. Moments later, Tejas Sarna had a run at the net, but was unable to get an uncontested look on goal.

- After the Garnet remained on the attack early in the opening minutes, Blue Jays connected on their first shot attempt for the game's opening goal in the ninth minute. Christian Bignotti then limited the damage with his first save, moments later.

- The Blue Jays added their second goal in the 21st minute to take a two-goal advantage.  Swarthmore made noise late in the half with consecutive shot attempts, but both were blocked away by Hopkins' defense. The Garnet outshot their opponent 6-5 in the opening 45-minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.

- Swarthmore cut its deficit in half with an early second half goal in the 53rd minute. After Len Yamabe was taken down just outside the box, the Garnet earned a free kick from the left side. Murungi nailed the attempt with a rocket to the high-right post, 2-1.

- The Garnet were unable to find the equalizer, while Johns Hopkins eventually struck again in the 72nd minute to build its lead back to two goals. The Blue Jays then added another insurance goal in the 86th minute to put the Garnet away, 4-1.
