Volleyball Victorious in Centennial Opener Over Dickinson, 3-0

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team opened its Centennial Conference schedule with a victory over Dickinson College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. 

Trisha Razdan highlighted a well-rounded box score with a team-best 10 kills for a .250 hitting percentage. Swarthmore spread out its attack as six players posted five or more kills on the afternoon. Dani Pena, who finished with six kills, also tallied a team-best 31 assists, while Nora Larson collected a career-high three aces. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got off to a fast start as it opened the first set with a 6-2 run, which featured five kills and a service ace. Dickinson soon countered with three-straight kills before eventually tying the set at 7-7. The Garnet gained some separation with five-unanswered points and never looked back as they led the rest of the way. Razdan closed out the set win with a clinching kill, 25-18.

- Both teams exchanged blows early in the second set as neither squad was able to pull away. Dickinson swung momentum in its favor midway through the set with an 11-3 run, which turned its three-point deficit into a five-point lead, 20-15. The Garnet countered with four-straight points, before adding on four more following a Red Devils' timeout to retake the lead, 23-20. Following four-straight Dickinson points, Swarthmore regrouped with three-straight kills to take the second set, 27-25. Angelina Heminway had two of the final three kills, including the set-clinching point. 

- The Garnet were determined to end the match in three sets as they raced out to a commanding start with a 13-6 lead. Swarthmore kept its opponent at a distance for the remainder of the set as its lead never dropped below three points. Kaylee Zhang sealed the victory for Swarthmore with the match-clinching kill, 25-20.
