Late Goal Thwarts Men's Soccer's Upset Bid at No. 9 F&M as Garnet Settle For Draw

LANCASTER, Pa. – A late goal by No. 9 Franklin & Marshall College spoiled the Swarthmore College men's soccer team's upset bid as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Centennial Conference action on Saturday evening.

Len Yamabe netted his second of the year for the Garnet's lone goal and Christian Bignotti recorded a season-high five saves. Swarthmore nearly pulled off the victory despite a 25-4 deficit in shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandon Cramblit almost put the Garnet in front just four minutes in but his shot rang off the post.

- The Diplomats generated pressure throughout the rest of the first half, getting off 11 shots, but the game remained scoreless as just two were on frame.

- In the second half, F&M had a flurry of four shots within a five-minute span, including one that found the crossbar. Bignotti came up with his third save of the night during the sequence as well.

- Swarthmore countered and Yamabe put the Garnet ahead in the 59th minute. He faked right then dashed left around a defender at the top of the box and fired a shot into the left side.

- The Diplomats tallied six shots over the ensuing 20 minutes but remained at a deficit with Bignotti coming up with another pair of stops. However, the home squad was awarded a free kick with four minutes to go and blasted a strike across the field and into the upper right corner to even the score.
