Men’s Soccer Falls Short at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit as it fell to Wilkes University, 1-0, on Wednesday.

Wilkes broke through with an early goal in the fourth minute and held the Garnet scoreless for an entire 90 minutes. Swarthmore put together plenty of chances and outshot its opponent 23-6, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Garnet also had seven corner kicks, while not surrendering a single corner attempt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wilkes struck quickly as they netted an early score in the fourth minute. The Colonels then threatened again with another shot on goal, but the attempt was saved by Logan Aboudara.

- The Garnet began to create opportunities in the 12th minute with a shot on goal by Joseph Eyiolowope. Moments later, Swarthmore recorded its second shot off a Bless Tumushabe attempt. Both attempts were saved by the Wilkes keeper.

- Swarthmore controlled the majority of scoring opportunities late in the opening half. The Garnet recorded three more shots on goal, but were unable to break through with the equalizer. Despite their slow start, the Garnet outshot Wilkes 6-3 with five shots on goal in the opening stanza.

- Swarthmore created more opportunities early in the second half with shots on goal from Brandon Cramblit and Joost Almekinders, but were turned away by the Wilkes keeper. The Garnet put together several runs at the net as they dominated play in the second half.

- With their backs against the wall, the Garnet put together a flurry of chances late in regulation. The team fired off three-straight shots following a corner kick, but they were all blocked away by Colonel defenders. Koome Murungi then registered a shot off a free kick, but was denied once more by the keeper.
