Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Schedule at Swat Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team opened the fall season against Haverford College on the opening day of the Swat Invite on Friday afternoon.

The Garnet won five of their 11 matches against the Fords. Swarthmore went 1-3 in doubles action and 4-3 in singles play. Eda Mjekiqi was victorious in both doubles and singles action to lead the Garnet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Erica Stutz and Mjekiqi bested Haverford, 8-6, in doubles. Mjekiqi was also victorious in a tightly-contested singles match. After taking the opening set 6-4, the first-year dropped her second set, 3-6, before responding with a 10-4 victory in the third set.

- Jenny Lewis impressed in singles play with a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 victory. Lisa Messier also had a strong showing with a singles victory, 6-2, 6-1.

- Riya Rao won a three-set showdown over her opponent. The sophomore took the opening set 7-5 before falling 2-6 in the second set. Rao then responded to take the final set, 10-6.

The Garnet continue play tomorrow with matchups against Stevens and Franklin & Marshall.
