CARLISLE, PA. - Improving to 6-0 in Centennial play, the Swarthmore men's tennis team decimated both Dickinson College and Ursinus College on Saturday, Apr. 8, both by a score of 9-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Ursinus (W, 9-0)
Doubles:
- Starting off the day strong, the Garnet rolled through their doubles matches, seeing wins from the duos of first year
Michael Melnikov/first year
Utham Koduri (8-4), first year
Max Lindstrom/junior
Rushil Patel (8-2) and junior
Phil Rehwinkel/sophomore
Graham Hadesman (8-3).
- With the victories, Swarthmore went into singles sporting a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Singles:
- Not allowing their momentum to dissipate heading into their singles matchups, the Garnet went on to dominate, taking five of six matches without dropping a set. Swarthmore saw straight set wins from Melnikov (6-2,6-1), Lindstrom (6-1,6-0), Koduri (6-1,6-2), Rehwinkel (6-0, 6-1) and Hadesman (6-1, 6-1).
- The Garnet's biggest test came in the No. 4 seeded match, when Patel was pushed to three sets after dropping the first. Undeterred however, Patel powered through, ultimately taking the contest 4-6, 6-2, 1[10]-0[7] to secure the Garnet's 9-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED - Dickinson (W, 9-0)
Doubles:
- The Garnet came out of the gate on fire in doubles play, seeing perfect 8-0 wins from the duos of sophomore

Andres Fente and sophomore
Jay Jones/first year
Lalith Suresh in the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded matches respectively.
- Swarthmore's only challenge came in the No. 2 match, but even then the pair of senior
Minh Nguyen/senior
Hellman Zhao cruised to a comfortable 8-3 victory. With the wins, the Garnet went into singles up 3-0.
Singles:
- Carrying their dominance into singles play, Swarthmore saw four perfect matches on the day, with Suresh, Zhao, Nguyen, and sophomore
Kevin Jiang all taking down their Dickinson opponents 6-0, 6-0.
- Even when the Red Devils won games, it proved no issue for the Garnet, as senior
Josiah Myers-Lipton (6-1,6-0) and Pogorelov (6-2,6-2) came out on top in the No. 2 and No. 4 matches respectively, closing out Swarthmore's 9-0 win.
