Offense Powers Past Muhlenberg to Earn Series Split, 21-5

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team scored in every inning as they bounced back to split the series against Muhlenberg College, 21-5, on Friday. The Garnet totaled their most single-game runs since tallying 22 runs against SUNY Canton on March 12, 2019.

Jett Shue played the best game of his career with highs in hits, runs and RBI while belting his first career home run. The junior went 4-for-5 at the dish with two RBI and four runs scored.

The Garnet also received a trio of four RBI performances from Aidan Sullivan, Matthew Silvestre and Joe Radek. Sullivan put together his second-straight two double performance to end the two-game series with four doubles against the Muhls. The four RBI also marked a career-high for Sullivan and Radek.

Matteo Sollecito earned the victory in one of his best performances of the season. The senior tossed a season-best five innings while allowing just two runs on five hits. Sollecito struck out three batters and did not allow a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Austin Burgess started the rally with a one-out single, while advancing to third base on Sullivan's third double of the series. Silvestre then plated Burgess on a fielder's choice, 1-1.

- The Garnet took the lead with two runs in the second inning on a two-run homer by Shue. Swarthmore then added another pair in the third inning on RBI doubles from Sullivan and Radek, 5-1.

- Swarthmore blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Shue stole home to score the inning's first run, before Silvestre brought home a pair on a double down the left field line. Radek added a run with an RBI single, while Nate Jbara drove home a run on a sacrifice flyout. Kirk Terada-Herzer then scored the inning's final run on a failed pickoff attempt, 11-1.

- Burgess added one run in the fifth on an RBI single. The Garnet then posted another crooked number with seven runs in the sixth inning. Max Roffwarg and Burgess singled in runs to open the scoring. Swarthmore then added two more runs on an error and one on a fielder's choice. Radek then capped off the rally with a two-run triple to center field, 19-2.

- The Garnet scored in their seventh-straight inning with a run in the seventh. Sullivan singled down the right field line to plate the team's 20th run. The Muhls then responded with three runs in the eighth inning, 20-5.
