No. 23 Women’s Tennis Downs F&M on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, PA. - Competing in their final match of the regular season, the No. 23 Swarthmore women's tennis team defeated Franklin & Marshall College by a score of 6-3 on Saturday, Apr. 22.

Despite dropping their No. 2 seeded doubles match, the Garnet came out on top in both the No. 1 and No. 3, securing a 2-1 lead over the Diplomats headed into singles. While Swarthmore stumbled early in singles play, falling in their first two contests, the Garnet regained their composure in the back half of the order, notching four straight wins to seize a 6-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- The Garnet picked up two early wins in both their No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests, as the pairs of sophomore Nathalie Williams/senior Crystal Xu (8-2) and first year Lola Diaz/junior Daniela Padron-Castillo (8-6) captured points for Swarthmore.

- Swarthmore's only loss came in the No. 2 slot, where the duo of junior Spencer Watts/junior Oviya Kumaran fell 8-6. Despite this loss however, the Garnet still stood strong, going into their singles matchups up 2-1.

Singles:
- The Garnet experienced a pair of setbacks early on in singles play, as junior Jenny Lewis fell in the No. 1 seeded match 6-4, 6-1, and Kumaran was forced to retire in the No. 2 seeded match.

- Bouncing right back, Swarthmore roared back to life, claiming victory in all four remaining four matches. Diaz (6-4,6-3), first year Lisa Messier (7-5,6-1), sophomore Lara Geib (6-0,6-1) and first year Riya Rao (6-2,6-1) all swept their contests in straight sets, securing the Garnet's 6-3 win.
