SWARTHMORE, PA. - Putting on a show for senior day, the Swarthmore women's lacrosse team took down Bryn Mawr College by a score of 13-5 on Saturday, Apr. 22.
Offensively, the Garnet were helmed by a three-pronged attack, made up of sophomores
Isabela Bloomquist,
Sophie Finkelstein and
Elizabeth Zack. All three had four points, with Bloomquist notching four goals while Finkelstein and Zack put up three goals and one assist each.
In goal, the always reliable junior
Helen Stafford held down the fort for the Garnet, tallying eight saves while facing down 18 shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet drew an early first blood, taking a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the half thanks to a laser from Finkelstein. While Bryn Mawr's defense toughened up, not allowing another goal through the next ten minutes, senior
Emma Holub finally broke through, extending Swarthmore's advantage to 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.
- While the Owls were finally able to answer in the second period, the Garnet responded right back just a minute later, growing their lead back out to 3-1 thanks to Bloomquist's first goal. Bloomquist's success lit a fire under the Swarthmore attack, as the Garnet went on to score three more unanswered, carrying a comfortable 6-1 margin into halftime.
- The Owls opened the scoring in the second half, cutting into the Garnet's lead at 6-2. While they would score once again in the third quarter, growing their goal total to three, their efforts proved no match for Swarthmore's barrage, as five Garnet goals grew their lead to 11-3 going into the fourth.
- Bryn Mawr scored twice more to kick off the final period. However, their offensive burst proved insufficient, as two Garnet goals snuffed out any hopes of a comeback and secured Swarthmore's 13-5 win.
- With the win, the Garnet are now 10-4 overall, 3-4 in conference play.
