Baseball Drops Series Finale to Johns Hopkins

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped their season series against Johns Hopkins University, 16-3, on Friday night.

Benjamin Buchman reached base twice and drove home the lone RBI for the Garnet. Aidan Sullivan and Nate Jbara also headlined the day at the plate with a pair of hits, respectively. Sullivan extended his active hit streak to 10 games.

Ethan Weiss tossed a hitless eighth and ninth inning for the Garnet while allowing just two hits and striking out three batters. He also did not allow a walk while tossing 34 pitches of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johns Hopkins got off to a fast start with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Blue Jays then added four runs in the second frame as they built a commanding lead, 6-0.

- The Garnet put two runners on in the bottom of the second, but were unable to trim into their deficit. Jbara recorded the first hit for the Garnet with two outs, which was followed by a Buchman walk.

- The Blue Jays added three more runs in the third inning to expand their lead. Joshua Rankey entered the game with the bases loaded and one out as he helped limit the damage for the Garnet, 9-0.

- Rankey allowed just one hit in a scoreless fourth inning to hang a zero on Hopkins' line. The Garnet then put one run across in the bottom half with three singles. Matthew Silvestre led off the inning with a leadoff hit, while Jett Shue singled to right center to put a pair of runners on base. Buchman then brought the team's first run home with a single to right center, 9-1.

- Swarthmore came through with a shutdown inning in the fifth as Rankey sent Johns Hopkins down in order. The Garnet put two baserunners on with one out in the bottom half, but were unable to come through with a big hit.

- Hopkins continued to tilt the game in their favor with three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. Swarthmore rallied with a pair of baserunners as one batter reached on an error and Sullivan singled to shortstop to extend his hit streak to 10 games. The Garnet then plated two runs in the inning on a Hopkins error.

- Weiss was excellent in relief with two scoreless innings to cool off the Blue Jays bats. The junior struck out three batters and did not allow a walk.
