GETTYSBURG, PA. - Sweeping their first conference doubleheader, the Swarthmore baseball team took down Gettysburg College on Saturday, Apr. 16, winning the first game 10-2 and the second 8-7.

Offensively, the Garnet were captained by senior
Emmet Reynolds and junior
Joe Radek. In game one, Reynolds notched three hits and two runs, while Radek put up three hits, three runs and an RBI in game two.

From the mound, Swarthmore saw an excellent outing from sophomore
Liam Alpern, with the lefty tossing seven innings in game one and only allowing one hit while striking out four batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One (W, 10-2)
- After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, the Garnet struck first in the second. After Reynolds doubled to right center, a Radek single drove him in, putting Swarthmore up 1-0. The Garnet scored twice more in the inning, with Radek reaching home off of a fielder's choice, and sophomore
Benjamin Buchman coming in following a double from sophomore

- Swarthmore extended their lead in the third, as Reynolds scored on a wild pitch to give the Garnet a 4-0 advantage over the Bullets. This lead grew to 5-0 in the top of the fourth when Buchman was driven in yet again, this time by senior
Nate Jbara.
- Shue notched another RBI in the fifth, bringing home sophomore
Matthew Silvestre on a sacrifice fly.
- Gettysburg were finally able to get on the board in bottom of the sixth, closing Swarthmore's advantage to 6-1. They scored again in the eighth, bringing their total for the game up to two.
- Despite Gettysburg's late success, the Garnet's lead proved insurmountable. Swarthmore scored twice more in the seventh and once in the eighth, closing out their dominant 10-2 win. Â

- Gettysburg rocketed out to a huge lead, going up 7-0 through the first five innings.
- The Garnet were finally able to respond in the top of the sixth. After loading the bases, senior
Austin Burgess was brought home on a walk, putting Swarthmore on the board at 7-1. A Shue single knocked in two more, scoring both Reynolds and Silvestre. Radek closed out the inning, advancing to third on a fielder's choice and coming home on a throwing error, growing the Garnet's score total to four.
- Swarthmore put up another run in the 8th, with Radek coming home on a fielder's choice to close the Garnet's gap to two at 7-5.
- Going into the top ninth, the Garnet trailed the Bullets by two, still needing production from their bats. Swarthmore got just that from the heart of their order, with Reynolds driving in Silvestre and senior
Kirk Terada-Herzer scoring on a throwing error to tie the game at 7-all.
- Shue completed Swarthmore's comeback, hammering home Radek with an RBI single and giving the Garnet their first lead of the contest at 8-7.
- Shue kept Swarthmore's lead intact in the bottom of the ninth, this time from the mound, pitching a perfect inning and securing the Garnet's come-from-behind win. Â
