Baseball Stumbles in Johns Hopkins Series Opener

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped the opening game of their two-game set versus Johns Hopkins University, 18-6, on Tuesday afternoon. 

Aidan Sullivan increased his hit streak to nine games with a pair of hits. The first-year also had his fifth-straight multi-hit performance and his sixth-straight game with a double. 

Max Roffwarg and Benjamin Buchman led the scoring with 2 RBI. Roffwarg reached base twice on the day, while Buchman had a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Matthew Silvestre also had a big day at the plate with three hits, which included a pair of doubles. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Jays got off to a fast start with a two-run homer in the first inning. Johns Hopkins then added another home run in the second to take a three-run lead, 3-0.

- Johns Hopkins broke the game open with a pair of crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth innings. The Blue Jays plated four runs in the fourth, before rallying for a seven-run fifth, 14-0.

- Sullivan opened the sixth inning with a single and advanced to third on a Silvestre double. The Garnet then plated their first run on a Jett Shue sacrifice flyout, 14-1.

- Johns Hopkins kept their foot on the gas with a three-run bottom of the sixth. The Garnet then worked to get two runs back on a Roffwarg single in the seventh, 17-3.

- After Hopkins added a run in the seventh, Swarthmore ended the game on a positive note with a three-run ninth inning. Sullivan doubled in the first run to extend his double streak to six games. Buchman then capped off the scoring with a two-run shot to right field, 18-6.
