SWARTHMORE, PA. - Still looking for their first Centennial win, the Swarthmore women's lacrosse team lost to Franklin & Marshall College by a score of 18-5 on Saturday, Apr. 1.
Offensively, the Garnet were led by senior
Emma Holub, with the New York City native notching a team leading two goals on four shots.
In goal, junior
Helen Stafford stood firm for Swarthmore against a Diplomat onslaught, tallying four saves while facing down over twenty shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet scored the game's first goal just six minutes into the first quarter, with Holub taking full advantage of a free position opportunity to sneak the ball into the back of the cage, putting Swarthmore up 1-0.
- Unfortunately, the Garnet's advantage would not hold, as F&M scored nine straight to take a 9-1 lead with 12:14 left in the half.
- Senior
Elizabeth Zack was finally able to stem the bleeding halfway through the second quarter, hammering the ball past the keeper to shrink Swarthmore's deficit to 9-2. Senior
Andie Kapiloff grew the Garnet's goal total to three near the end of the half, scoring her first goal of the season at Clothier Field Stadium.
- The Diplomats were able to match Swarthmore's offensive production however, going into the break up 12-3 over the Garnet.
- While Holub was able to notch her second score of the contest with 3:26 left in the third, F&M scored four more goals in the quarter, growing their lead to 16-4.
- Despite Garnet sophomore
Isabela Bloomquist finding the back of the net in the fourth, the Diplomats' hold on the game proved insurmountable, as Swarthmore fell 18-5.
