Men’s Lacrosse Downs Another Centennial Powerhouse, Pretzer Continues to Impress

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team won their second-straight conference matchup with an impressive 13-6 victory over Franklin & Marshall University on Saturday afternoon. With today's win, the Garnet beat the Diplomats for the first time since 2009. 

Swarthmore spread out the scoring in a complete team effort. Jackson Brosgol paced the team with a hat trick on three goals, while Von Mabbs, Carter Strauch and Clay Almgren all added two goals. Nolan Ohrman, Rex Mabbs, Danny Lowe and Cooper Bucklan rounded out the goal scorers with one tally for the Garnet. Von Mabbs and Nolan Ohrman also collected a pair of assists to lead the squad.

Ryan Pretzer gave the Garnet another gutsy performance with 15 saves on just six goals allowed. The first-year collected a season-high .714 saves percentage in his fifth win of the season. Pretzer has combined for 31 saves and a .689 saves percentage this week in a pair of wins over the Diplomats and Muhlenberg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a five-minute scoreless drought to open the contest, the Diplomats broke through first with the game's first goal. Swarthmore was held scoreless until the five minute mark, but rattled off four goals before the end of the opening stanza. Lowe scored the first goal to tie the game with 4:59 left. Seconds later, Brosgol scored on an assist from Ohrman to take the lead, while Almgren and Carter Strauch added scores to end the first, 4-1. 

- The Garnet carried momentum from the opening quarter with the first two goals of the second. Ohrman connected on the first tally, white Carter Strauch scored off an assist from Liam Halstead for the team's sixth unanswered goal. Franklin & Marshall would answer with one goal before intermission to trim their deficit to four goals, 6-2.

- The Diplomats trimmed into the Garnet lead with the opening two goals of the second half. However, Brosgol got the team back on track with an assisted goal from Von Mabbs at the 11:24 mark. Von Mabbs then collected a tally of his own as Ryan Chambliss assisted a score to erase the Diplomat's progress. Franklin & Marshall would add two more goals before the end of the third, but they were countered by a pair of goals from Von and Rex Mabbs, 11-6.

- Swarthmore held the Diplomats scoreless in the fourth quarter, which marked the first time all season that the team had been shutout in a quarter. Pretzer made four saves in the quarter to blank the Diplomats, while Almgren and Bucklan added insurance goals for the Garnet, 13-6.
