NAPLES, Fl. - Competing in their final spring break games, the Swarthmore softball team fell to Drew University by a score of 6-0, then defeated Grove City College 8-2.
Offensively, the Garnet were led by junior
Molly O'Sullivan against Grove City, with the Illinois native recording three hits and four RBIs on four at-bats.
From the mound, Swarthmore saw impressive production from sophomore
Sarah Schab against Drew, with the Georgia native allowing just two hits, zero runs, and three strikeouts over three innings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED - DREW
- Both squads struggled offensively through the first two thirds of the contest, not able to put up a run until the sixth inning. While the Garnet had their chances to score, stranding runners on first and second in the third, they were not able to bring them across home plate.
- The Rangers put up runs in the top of the sixth, taking a 2-0 lead that would be extended to 6-0 in the top of the seventh.
- While the Garnet had the opportunity to stage a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, they were ultimately unable to, stranding all three runners and dropping the game 6-0.

- The Garnet struck early, going up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. After singling to left field to lead off the side, junior
Flannery McFadden was driven in by
Brooke Coneeny for her first of two runs.
- Swarthmore extended their lead to 4-0 in the third, with Coneeny, first year
Iris Barone and senior
Kate Hart all crossing home plate for the Garnet.
- While the Wolverines finally got on the board in the top of the fifth, the Garnet secured a dominant lead in the sixth, scoring four runs to go up 8-1 over Grove City.
- The Garnet's lead would hold, as the Wolverines managed just one more run in the top of the seventh, cementing Swarthmore's 8-2 victory.

Lane Barron had an excellent outing on the mound, allowing just one earned run while striking out two batters through five innings pitched.
