Baseball Comes Up Short Against Baldwin Wallace

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fl. - Falling in their third straight game, the Swarthmore baseball team was taken down by Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday, Mar. 8th by a score of 9-3.

Offensively, the Garnet were led by sophomore Matthew Silvestre and senior Nate Jbara, with both players putting up a stat line of one hit, one run and one RBI.

From the mound, Swarthmore were captained by first year Noah Potholm, with the Virginia native allowing just one earned run and striking out three batters over six innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet struck early, scoring in the top of the first inning. Silvestre advanced to second on a throwing error, made it to third on a passed ball, and was ultimately driven in when senior Emmet Reynolds grounded out, putting Swarthmore up 1-0 over the Yellow Jackets.

- Swarthmore extended their lead in the top of the fourth, with Jbara hammering a home run to left field and putting the Garnet up 2-0.

- Silvestre recorded his RBI in the top of the fifth, driving in senior Austin Burgess from second and giving the Garnet a comfortable 3-0 lead.

- Unfortunately, Swarthmore could not maintain their momentum, surrendering one run in the sixth, and then four runs in both the seventh and eighth. The Garnet were unable to put up any more runs, ultimately falling to the Yellow Jackets 9-3.

- With the loss, the Garnet are now 5-4 on the season.
