Baseball Falls to Kean in Port Charlotte

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Swarthmore College baseball team ended up on the wrong side of a late inning rally as they fell to Kean University, 19-4, on Tuesday.

Emmet Reynolds had an excellent day at the plate as he drove home all four runs and slugged his first homer of the season as he reached base three times.

Swarthmore created traffic on the base paths all game with 10 hits and three walks.  Austin Burgess and Matthew Silvestre joined Reynolds with two-hit performances on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jack Bowling got through a clean first inning as he struck out the final batter swinging after allowing a pair of baserunners. However, the Cougars combined for three runs over the next two innings to jump out to an early advantage, 3-0.

- Swarthmore loaded the bases in the first and second innings as they combined for five hits, but were unable to scrape a run across early in the game.

- Alex Schoessler entered the game in the fourth inning and generated a double play to help escape the inning. He then induced another double play in the fifth as he retired the side in another scoreless frame.

 - Kirk Terada-Herzer worked a deep count that resulted in a walk to open the fifth inning, while Burgess was hit by a pitch to bring the tying run to the plate. Reynolds then tied the game with one swing of the bat as he launched a three-run homer to right-center field, 3-3.

- Kean broke things open with a six-run sixth inning. They then added three runs in the seventh and six more in the eighth.

- Swarthmore kept battling as Burgess tripled to right field to open the ninth inning. Reynolds then plated Burgess with a ground ball for his fourth RBI of the game.
