Box Score FULLERTON, Ca. - Playing in the first dual match of their spring break trip, the Swarthmore men's tennis team took down Hope International University on Monday, Mar. 6th by a score of 5-2.
The Garnet opened strong, taking wins in two of the three doubles matches and seizing a 1-0 lead over the Royals. Swarthmore carried that momentum into singles play, winning four of six matches and securing their 5-2 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- The Garnet dominated in doubles play, winning both the No.1 and No.3 seeded matches, with the duos of sophomore
Graham Hadesman/first year
Utham Koduri and first year
Michael Melnikov/junior
Rushil Patel both coming out on top 6-2 and 6-1 respectively.
- With the victories, Swarthmore took a 1-0 lead going into singles matches.
Singles:
- Junior
Charley Force got things rolling for the Garnet in singles play, taking the No.1 seeded match by a score of 6-4, 6-1, extending Swarthmore's advantage to 2-0.
- While the Royals managed to tie the contest at 2-all with wins in the No.2 and No.3 matches, sophomore
Kevin Jiang got the Garnet back on track, winning the No.4 match 6-2, 6-2 and securing Swarthmore a 3-2 lead.
- First year
Aamish Pal pulled out a greuling three-set victory in the No.5 match, ultimately taking the win 6-2, 3-6, 1[10]-0[6].
- First year
Andres Fente secured the Garnet's 5-2 victory in the No.6 match, taking the win 6-1, 7-5 and capturing Swarthmore's fifth and final point.
