Baseball Tripped Up Versus Wabash

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla - The Swarthmore College baseball team suffered its first loss of spring break against Wabash College, 24-3, on Monday night.

Evan Johnson led the offense with 2 RBI on a single late in the game, while Max Roffwarg and Austin Burgess added the team's other two runs. Max Beadling put together two solid at bats late in the game as he earned his second two-walk game of the season.

Jeremy Jensen got some high-pressure outs late in the game. He escaped a one-out jam in the sixth inning without allowing an inherited runner to score. The sophomore tossed 2.2 innings with two earned runs and a strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind 3-0 early, Swarthmore made some noise in the second inning with a leadoff walk from Kirk Terada-Herzer. Nate Jbara then reached on a single while Kaiden Rosenbaum worked a walk to load the bases. The Garnet then plated their first run on a Roffwarg hit by pitch, while Burgess walked to bring home the second run.

- Andrew Moy navigated through a clean third inning to keep the Garnet close. After allowing a one-out single, Benjamin Buchman caught a runner stealing at second base to steal an out for Swarthmore. Moy then induced a flyout to end the scoreless frame.

- The Garnet surrendered six runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The team then called on Jensen to escape a challenging sixth inning as he struck out his first batter swinging and got a ground ball to put the inning to rest.

- Swarthmore threatened in the seventh inning as their first two batters reached base. Buchman singled and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, while Max Beadling followed with a walk. However, the Garnet were unable to capitalize on the threat.

- The Garnet strung together some good at bats in a two-run ninth inning. Beadling worked another walk in his second at bat of the game to get something cooking for the offense with one out. Jett Shue then prolonged the game with a two-out walk to advance Beadling into scoring position. After another walk from Emmet Reynolds, Johnson recorded his first RBI of the season with a two-run single.

- The Belarus native Vlad Hes also made his collegiate debut for the Garnet. Belarus is a landlocked country boarded by Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Latvia.
