Men’s Lacrosse Downs Elizabethtown on the Back of Hat Tricks From Both Mabbs Brothers

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Maintaining their undefeated record at home, the Swarthmore men's lacrosse team defeated Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Mar. 4th by a score of 13-7.

Offensively, the Garnet were led by the Mabbs brothers, with junior Von Mabbs and first year Rex Mabbs notching four goals and three goals respectively. Swarthmore saw production across the board, with shots from sophomore Cooper Bucklan, senior Jackson Brosgol, first year Nolan Ohrman and first year Clay Almgren also finding the back of the net.

Defensively, sophomore Shane Nachshen was a rock in goal, recording seven saves while facing down 26 shots. Senior Will Bernstein put up stellar stats of his own, going 12-24 in faceoffs while scooping up one ground ball.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite Elizabethtown striking first just two minutes into the first quarter, the Garnet responded quickly, with Brosgol burying a shot in the back of the net to tie the game at 1-all. While the Blue jays seized back the lead, finding paydirt twice more in the quarter, Swarthmore stormed back, notching three straight scores in the course of four minutes to go up 4-3 by the end of the first.

- The Garnet would carry their momentum into the second period, with the Mabbs brothers each finding the net just 17 seconds apart, extending Swarthmore's advantage to 6-3. Despite their success however, the Garnet could not slow down the Blue Jays, as a 3-1 run from Elizabethtown to close out the second slashed Swarthmore's lead to 7-6 going into the half.

- Undeterred however, the Garnet came out of the break on fire, sneaking three straight goals past the Etown keeper in the third quarter. The fourth saw much of the same, as despite the Blue Jays finally notching a goal in the second half, three more Garnet scores cemented Swarthmore's dominant 13-7 win.

- Nachshen and the Garnet defense completely dismantled the Blue Jay attack in the second half, allowing just one goal and seven shots in the final thirty minutes of play.

- With the win, the Garnet are now 3-1 on the season.
