Roanoke then responded with consecutive scores, but the Garnet were able to return the punch with three-straight goals from George Schoettle, Carter Strauch and Will Bernstein. Following a goal from the Maroons, Von Mabbs and Chambliss each found the back of the net again to close out the half with a 13-7 advantage.

Roanoke put together one last run as they strung together four-unanswered goals to shrink their deficit to five goals. Danny Lowe then settled things down with a goal to get the Garnet back on track, 17-11.
