SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Punching their ticket to the Sweet 16, the Swarthmore men's basketball team defeated St. John Fisher University on Saturday, Mar. 4th by a score of 101-78.

Offensively, the Garnet saw monster games from first year
Cal Hanson and junior
Vinny DeAngelo, with Hanson notching a career high mark of 23 points and an assist while DeAngelo tallied 22 points and a personal best nine assists. Both shooters were lethal from beyond the arc, as Hanson shot 5-7 and DeAngelo splashed 4-8 from three. Proving crucial to the Garnet's season high point total as well, first year
Eddie Paquette (15), senior
Colin Shaw (10) and senior
George Visconti (10) all had double digit performances of their own.

Defensively, DeAngelo and Paquette locked St. John Fisher down, with both players snagging team leading marks of eight rebounds and two steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Visconti got the Garnet cooking early, nailing a three just seven seconds into the contest. Swarthmore would carry that momentum into an early lead, going up 10-0 over the Cardinals two minutes into the game. While St. John Fisher finally got on the board, the Garnet refused to let off the gas, as triples from Paquette, DeAngelo, and Shaw put Swarthmore ahead 24-14, forcing the Cardinals to take a timeout.
- Undeterred by the stoppage of play, the Garnet refused to miss, keeping the Cardinals at arms length over the next five minutes thanks to points from Visconti, Hanson, DeAngelo, and Paquette.
- With the Cardinals poised to pull back within reach, trailing Swarthmore by only 11 with 4:45 left to play, back-to-back threes from Paquette and Hanson ignited a 12-4 Garnet run, putting them up 52-33. While St. John Fisher closed the margin somewhat thanks to late points to close out the first half, Swarthmore went into the break sporting a comfortable 52-39 lead.
- Paquette had an excellent first half, captaining the Garnet with a stat line of 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
- Picking up right where they left off, the Garnet exploded out of the gate in the second half, splashing in ten straight points before John Fisher could even respond, seizing a 62-39 advantage three minutes into the period.
- The Garnet's early run set the tone for the half, as despite stellar shooting of their own, the Cardinals were unable to keep up with Swarthmore's artillery barrage from deep. The Garnet shot 0.515 from beyond the arc, downing 17 threes in their blowout 101-78 win over the St. John Fisher.
