No. 7 Men’s Basketball Advances to Elite Eight, Dominates No. 5 Keene State

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 7 Swarthmore College Garnet advanced past No. 5 Keene State College, 82-58, to earn a spot in tomorrow's Elite Eight round against Nichols College. The Garnet enacted their revenge against the Owls after Keene State eliminated Swarthmore on their home court in last season's opening round.

Vinny DeAngelo continued to cement his status as one of the nation's elite players. The junior dropped a game-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting as he put together a performance to remember for the Garnet.

Michael Caprise, George Visconti and Colin Shaw also scored in double figures for the Garnet. Caprise collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Visconti and Shaw tallied 15 and 11, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- DeAngelo brought the crowd to their feet with a three-pointer on the team's first possession. Both teams traded blows early until DeAngelo drilled another triple to give the Garnet a 10-9 advantage.

- Swarthmore distanced themselves with 14-unanswered points at the midway point of the first half. George Corzine opened the rally with a bucket at the 13:22 mark, Cal Hanson, DeAngelo, Caprise and Visconti added consecutive buckets as all five players on the floor scored in sequence. Caprise and DeAngelo capped off the team's swing with back-to-back buckets to take a 26-13 lead.

- After Keene State ended Swarthmore's run with a fastbreak dunk. Swarthmore responded with consecutive points from DeAngelo and Caprise to take a 15-point advantage.

- Caprise ran the length of the court to follow up a Visconti fastbreak miss with an offensive rebound and putback to go back up by 15 points with 1:22 left. The Garnet headed into intermission with a 13-point advantage. DeAngelo led all scorers with 17 points, while Caprise added 12 points.

- Shaw found Visconti on a beautiful backdoor cut to the basket to take a 17-point lead early in the second half. After Keene answered with five-straight points, Shaw got the Garnet back on track with a tough driving layup as he absorbed contact. DeAngelo then connected with a cutting Caprise to put Swarthmore ahead 51-35 with 15:34 left.

- After a pair of Caprise free throws, Visconti hit from long range to pull ahead by 18 points. Following an answer from the Owls, the Garnet maintained pressure with an acrobatic driving layup from Vinny DeAngelo.

- Corzine continued to give the Garnet quality minutes off the bench during their postseason run. The senior big man sealed his man on offense and laid in a feed from Eddie Paquette. Visconti then cashed in a pair of free throws to expand their lead to 21 points at the 9:09 mark.

- The Garnet kept their foot on the gas with excellent play at both ends of the floor. DeAngelo brought the crowd to its feet with another physical layup as he cut hard through the paint and battled through contact for two points. Shaw then dropped a dagger on the Owls with a three-pointer to take a 75-46 lead over the fifth-ranked team in the nation with 5:16 left.
