Softball Bounces Back in Thrilling Finale Over No. 15 Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ. - The Swarthmore College softball team bounced back from a difficult opening result as they defeated No. 15 Rowan University, 4-3, in the double-header finale on Tuesday. 

Brooke Coneeny helped pull off the comeback victory over the Profs with a game-winning, two-run double in the seventh inning. Coneeny had two hits in the finale and worked a walk to reach base three times. Alexandra Simon and Avery McClure tallied the team's other two RBI in a thrilling game-two victory. 

Emily Bertrand earned the win in the finale with three excellent innings of relief. Bertrand held the Profs scoreless, while allowing just one hit to help secure the double-header split.

SWARTHMORE 5, ROWAN 13
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Rowan got off to a fast start with six runs in the first two innings. The Profs batted around for four runs in the first inning, while adding a pair in the second. 

-Swarthmore battled back with five runs in the third inning. Flannery McFadden and Simon each walked to help start the rally, while McClure doubled to right-center field to plate the first run. Bertrand and Cassidy Cheong then singled up the middle with two outs to bring home runs. Jordan Jackson closed out the frame with a two-run single to pull within one run, 5-4. 

- Rowan got a run back in the bottom of the third to add some breathing room. The Profs then rallied for six runs in the fifth inning to end the game, 13-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Rowan jumped out to another fast start with two runs in the first inning. The Garnet avoided further damage in the inning with a bases-loaded double play to defuse the Profs rally, 2-0.

- Swarthmore tied the game with a pair of runs in the third inning. Jackson worked a leadoff walk to start the frame, while Iris Barone followed with a single to left-center field. Simon drove home the first run with a single, while McClure added the tying score on a single to left, 2-2.

- Molly O'Sullivan provided a much-needed shutdown inning in the third as she retired the Profs in order. The Garnet then threatened in the fourth, but had the go-ahead runner thrown out at home on a single from Barone.

- Rowan took the lead with one run in the fifth inning. The Garnet then fought back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Simon and Bertrand both worked walks to start off the frame, while Coneeny came through with the big hit on a two-run double to regain the lead, 4-3.

- Bertrand allowed a pair of baserunners in the seventh inning, but worked out of the jam to secure the win for the Garnet. The sophomore was essential to Swarthmore's victory as she tossed three scoreless innings, 4-3.
