Baseball Cruises Past Eastern, 10-4

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team coasted off an early lead as they defeated Eastern University, 10-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

Aidan Sullivan set the tone with a two-run shot for his second career home run on the team's second at-bat of the game. The Garnet never looked back as they led the entire way behind solid pitching and another double-digit offensive outburst.

Max Roffwarg also tallied a game-high two RBI to go with a pair of hits in the victory. Seven different players drove in runs for the Garnet - including three first-year players.

Joshua Rankey tossed three strong innings in a winning effort. Rankey allowed just one run on three hits while striking out two batters. Zach Potthoff, Rohan Cherukuri, Jett Shue and Alexander Rimerman took care of the late innings as they combined for five scoreless frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sullivan homered to right-center field to score Roffwarg, who reached base on a leadoff double to open the game, 2-0.

- In the second inning, Kirk Terada-Herzer helped manufacture a run after working a leadoff walk and stealing second base. After advancing to third base on an error, Terada-Herzer came home to score on a Kaiden Rosenbaum single through the right side. Swarthmore then added a second run on an Xavier Taylor fielder's choice, 4-0.

- Swarthmore would add to their total with two-run fifth inning. Nate Jbara singled in the first run, while Terada-Herzer brought a second run home on a fielder's choice. However, Eastern kept themselves within striking distance with a three-run bottom half of the inning, 6-4.

- Cherukuri settled things down with a much-needed scoreless sixth. After allowing a leadoff single, the Garnet induced a double play before retiring the side in order with a ground out.

- Shue navigated out of a seventh inning jam after inheriting a pair of baserunners with one out. Shue got his batters to strikeout and foul out to escape the seventh unharmed.

- Terada-Herzer led an eighth inning rally with a single to left-center field and later scored on a wild pitch. Roffwarg and Matthew Silvestre then singled in runs to build a six-run cushion, 10-4.

- Rimerman shut the door with an easy ninth inning. The sophomore retired the side in order with two strikeouts.
