CAMDEN, NJ - Playing in their first contest of a four game road stint, the Swarthmore baseball team fell to Rutgers University at Camden by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday, Mar. 21.

Offensively, the Garnet were led by sophomore
Matthew Silvestre, with the catcher putting up a stat line of two hits, a walk and a run on four at bats.

From the mound, first year
Steven Jungers got Swarthmore off to a hot start, allowing just one hit and one run through two innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Garnet were left scoreless in the top of the first , Rutgers-Camden drew first blood in the bottom of the inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Swarthmore were finally able to respond in the third. After being hit by a pitch and stealing second, senior
Austin Burgess was brought home by an error from the shortstop, tying the game at 1-all.
- The Scarlet Raptors regained their lead in the bottom of the third, going up 2-1 on the Garnet.
- Not phased however, Swarthmore evened the score once again in the very next inning, with sophomore
Max Roffwarg being driven home by first year
Kaiden Rosenbaum to put the contest at 2-2.
- The Garnet took their first lead of the afternoon in the top of the fifth, as senior
Nate Jbara brought in Silvestre to give Swarthmore a 3-2 advantage.
- Unable to maintain their margin however, Swarthmore surrendered one run in the seventh and two in the eight, allowing Rutgers-Camden to go up 5-3.
- The Garnet had a chance at a comeback in the ninth, advancing runners to first and third with just one out. Unfortunately, the man at first was tagged out and the final batter grounded out to second base, ending the game at 5-3 in favor of the Scarlet Raptors.Â
