SALISBURY, Md. - The Swarthmore College softball team dropped their double header versus Lynchburg, 4-3, and No. 1 Salisbury, 8-3, on Saturday night. 

Avery McClure had a strong day at the plate to lead Swarthmore's offense with a pair of 2-for-4 performances. The first-year added a double and a triple with an RBI and two runs scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lynchburg got on the board in the second inning with an RBI single. The Garnet then answered with a run in the third inning. McClure got things going with a leadoff triple as she came home to score on a one-out fielder's choice from Iris Barone, 1-1.

- The Hornets regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Meg Ozawa then navigated out of a jam in the fourth inning to keep the Garnet within two runs, 3-1.

- Lynchburg added another run in the sixth inning to build a three-run cushion. The Hornets' insurance run came in handy as the Garnet plated two runs in the seventh inning. Molly O'Sullivan drove home the first run with a double to left field and then McClure added the second run with a single up the middle. The Garnet advanced the tying run into scoring position, but were unable to come through with another knock.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore took advantage of an early Salisbury error as they plated an unearned run in the first. Olivia McClammy drove home Barone with a double down the left field line to score the first run against the top team in the nation.

- Salisbury responded with an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the inning. However, Swarthmore quickly got the run back with a leadoff homer by Emily Bertrand in the second inning, 2-1. 

- The Seagulls took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Garnet then fought back with a run in the fourth inning. McClure started the rally with a leadoff double to open the frame. She then advanced to third on a ground ball to shortstop and later scored on another ground out to the left side by Cassidy Cheong, 3-3.

- Salisbury took control of the game with three runs in the fourth inning to double the Garnet's score. They then added a run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a five-run lead, 8-3.
