Baseball Overtakes Immaculata with Late Rally, Radek and Sullivan Homer

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team overtook Immaculata, 10-4, with a late offensive surge on Saturday afternoon.

Joe Radek launched his second home run in two games, while Aidan Sullivan hit his first career homer to spark a three-run eighth inning to propel the Garnet to victory.

Liam Alpern had another strong outing as he continued to be effective out of the starting rotation. The sophomore got into some trouble with four walks on the afternoon, but overmatched the Mighty Macs with seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits. He lasted four innings with three earned runs.

Jack Bowling was also strong in relief with three innings of one-run baseball. Casey Jordan and Alexander Rimerman then shut the door with scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alpern picked up where he left off early in the season as he struck out the side to open the first frame. Swarthmore's offense then provided support with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Kirk Terada-Herzer opened the rally with a single to center field. The Garnet then moved two runs into scoring position with a Matthew Silvestre double, before bringing home runs on a Nate Jbara sac fly and a Sullivan single to center, 2-0.

- Alpern worked through a clean second and third inning. The sophomore allowed a pair of baserunners in the second frame, but Silvestre caught a runner stealing at second base to end the threat.

- Immaculata knocked in a pair in the fourth inning on a check-swing two-run single. The Mighty Macs then took the lead on a sacrifice flyout, 3-2. Alpern limited the damage with his seventh strikeout to end the inning.

- The Garnet answered right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead. Radek worked a walk to open the frame, while Jett Shue followed with a single. Both runners advanced on a ball and then touched home on consecutive ground outs from Max Beadling and Austin Burgess, 4-3.

- The pendulum swung back to the Mighty Macs as they tied the game in the seventh inning. Jack Bowling was excellent besides his one seventh inning blunder. The sophomore allowed just one run on three hits over three innings of relief.

- Swarthmore took the lead in the eighth with a pair of homers. Sullivan launched the first dinger with a one-out solo shot to dead center. Radek then hit his second homer in the past two games with a two-run homer to cap off a three-run frame, 7-4.

- The Garnet ran away with the game as they added three more in the eighth. After a walk, single and hit by pitch, Silvestre cleared the bases with a three-run double to bust the game open, 10-4.
