CLAREMONT, Ca. - Rounding out their spring break trip, the No. 32 Swarthmore women's tennis team fell to No. 2 Claremont-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Mar. 11 by a score of 7-0.
The Garnet struggled in doubles play, only winning five games across three matches. Unfortunately, Swarthmore could not turn around their fortunes in singles, dropping five of six matches in straight sets, ultimately falling 7-0 to the Athenas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Despite fighting hard, the Garnet could not seem to get anything going in their doubles matches, with the duos of sophomore

Kathleen Shiffer/junior
Spencer Watts (6-2) and junior
Erica Stutz/junior
Oviya Kumaran (6-1) all dropping their matches.
- With the losses, Swarthmore went into singles down 1-0.
Singles
- Despite their best efforts, the Garnet could not turn around the match in singles play, with Williams (6-0,6-1), Shiffer (6-1,6-1), Kumaran (6-0,6-1), junior
Jenny Lewis (6-2,6-1), and first year
Lisa Messier (6-3,6-2) all falling in straight sets.
- Swarthmore's best chance to pick up a win came in the No. 4 seeded match, when Stutz went the distance with her CMS opponent, battling deep into the third set. Unfortunately she could not hold on, falling 5-7, 6-3, 1-0[10-8].
