DeAngelo Leads No. 10 Men’s Basketball in Dominant Second Half at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 10 Swarthmore College men's basketball team outlasted the Bears with a dominant second half as they swept the season series against Ursinus College, 74-58, on Tuesday night. 

Vinny DeAngelo led the team's late surge with 26 points in the second half after being held to just one basket in the opening stanza. DeAngelo was a perfect 9-of-9 from the field in the second half as his team saw nearly a 30-percent increase in their second half shooting percentage. The junior ended the game with 28 points, while shooting 10-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range. 

George Visconti also scored in double figures with 11 points, while Michael Caprise fell short of another double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Caprise and Cal Hanson opened the game with layups to score the game's first baskets. Visconti then helped add separation with a three-pointer to give the Garnet a 9-4 lead at the 11:47 mark. 

- The Bears pulled within one basket before Hanson connected from long range with a timely three-pointer with 8:16 left. Shaw then knocked down a triple later in the half to put the Garnet ahead by eight points, 19-11.  

- George Corzine provided a spark off the bench with an and-one layup to go up by nine points with 4:04 left. The Bears stormed back to tie the game at the half with a 9-2 run in the final four minutes of half, 24-24. 

- Ursinus opened the second half with a bucket to take its first lead. The Garnet then responded with a DeAngelo three-pointer to retake the lead. The triple sparked a 10-2 run to give the Garnet a nine-point lead, 37-28. 

- After being held to two points in the opening half, DeAngelo scored 14 points, which included three three-pointers, in the opening five minutes of the second half. The junior capped off his scorching start with a three-pointer to put the Garnet ahead by 12 points, 42-30.

- Corzine, Caprise and DeAngelo combined for six-consecutive free throws to increase the Garnet's lead to 10 points. Ursinus then answered back with six-consecutive free throws of their own, before DeAngelo added with his 20th point of the contest to go up by six points with 7:57 left.

- DeAngelo continued his dominant second half with his fourth three-pointer to put Swarthmore ahead by eight points. He then connected with his fifth three of the contest on the final possession, before finding TJ Chapman for a corner triple to give the Garnet their largest lead at 61-47 with 5:32 left. 

- DeAngelo delivered the final blow with a jumper at the 3:02 mark to pull ahead by 14 points. Visconti then drilled a three-pointer out of a Bears timeout to expand their lead to 68-51 with 2:18 left. Swarthmore led by as many as 20 points as they outscored the Bears 50-34 in the second half.
