ABERDEEN, MD - Starting out the season 2-0, the Swarthmore baseball team took down the University of Scranton on Sunday, Feb. 26 by a score of 10-9.

Offensively, the Garnet were led by senior
Nate Jbara and sophomore
Max Beadling. Both players earned two runs, while Jbara recorded two hits and Beadling tallied one. Overall, the Garnet put up nine hits.

On the defensive end, sophomore
Liam Alpern threw four full innings for the Garnet, striking out three batters while allowing four hits and three runs. Sophomore
Alexander Rimerman recorded his first save of the season, notching two strikeouts while not allowing a hit, let alone a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- While Scranton struck first, recording a run in the top of the first, the Garnet responded in the second inning, with a double from senior
Emmet Reynolds driving in Jbara to tie the game at 1-all.

- Two Royal runs put Scranton up 3-1 going into the fourth, before a dominant half inning from the Garnet gave Swarthmore their first lead of the game. Junior
Jett Shue was driven in by first year
Kaiden Rosenbaum for Swarthmore's second run, while Rosenbaum and sophomore
Max Beadling scored the third and fourth to put the Garnet up 4-3.
- While the Garnet lost the lead in the top half of the seventh off of two runs from Scranton, the bottom of the seventh saw an offensive explosion from Swarthmore. Reynolds, Beadling, sophomore

Austin Burgess and Jbara all crossed home plate, giving the Garnet a comfortable 10-6 lead over the Royals.
- Despite Scranton scoring two runs in the top of the eighth, the Garnet defense held firm, with a dominant mound performance from Rimerman in the top of the 9th securing the Garnet's 10-9 victory.
- With the win, the Garnet are now 2-0 on the season.Â
