No. 29 Women’s Tennis Keeps Unbeaten Streak Rolling, Downs Stevens

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Improving to 3-0 on the season, the Swarthmore women's tennis team defeated Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday, Feb. 24th by a score of 9-0.

The Garnet opened strong, seizing victory in all three doubles matches and taking a 3-0 lead over the Ducks. Swarthmore carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches in straight sets, securing their 9-0 victory, their second perfect outing this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- The Garnet dominated doubles play, only allowing the Ducks to win two games in the No.2 and No.3 seeded matches, and just one game in the No.1 seeded match.

- Swarthmore saw three straight impressive wins from the duos of sophomore Nathalie Williams/junior Erica Stutz (8-1), first year Kathleen Shiffer/junior Jenny Lewis (8-2) and junior Daniela Padron-Castillo/first year Lola Diaz (8-2), securing the Garnet a 3-0 lead going into singles competition.

Singles:
- Swarthmore carried their momentum into singles play, sweeping all but one match in straight sets. Lewis (6-3,6-1), Padron-Castillo (6-1,6-4), first year Lisa Messier (6-0,6-2), junior Anna Miller (6-3, 6-2) and sophomore Lara Geib (6-0) all captured dominant wins in the No.1, No.3, No.4, No.5 and No.6 matches respectively.

- The Garnet's biggest test game in the No.2 seeded match, with Diaz struggling in the first set, dropping it 6-1. Diaz proved unphased however, as the Oregon native stormed back, taking the second and third sets 6-4 and 6-3 to secure Swarthmore's perfect 9-0 victory.
