Women’s Basketball Drops Rivalry Game At Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Playing in their penultimate game of the season, the Swarthmore women's basketball team fell to Haverford College on Wednesday, Feb. 15th by a score of 51-38.

Offensively, the Garnet were captained by senior Dana Bandurick, with the Pennsylvania native dropping 13 points and two assists. On defense, Bandurick along with sophomore Katelyn Becker held down the fort for Swarthmore, as both players tallied two steals and Bandurick added a block.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet fell behind early, trailing 8-2 three minutes into the first quarter. While a Bandurick layup closed Swarthmore's deficit to four, they were unable to match the Fords' offensive attack, going into the break down 23-5.

- Swarthmore saw their fortune's reversed in the second quarter, holding Haverford to just one point in the period. Conversely, the Garnet scored 12 points of their own, with buckets from sophomore Carolina Lopez, first year Anna Hansson, sophomore Alyssa Hayashi, and Bandurick closing the gap between the two squads to 24-17 at the half.

- While both squads kicked off the second half trading baskets, the Garnet were unable to keep up with Haverford's attack, falling behind 33-21 with 4:52 left in the third. While a triple from Lopez and a foul shot from Bandurick brought the Garnet back within 10, the Fords once again widened the margin, closing out the period up 40-29.

- Despite a 9-0 run from Haverford to start the fourth, points from Hansson and Hayashi finally got the Garnet on the board. While five more points from sophomore Norah Wingfield and first year Harrison Anderson kept the Garnet competitive, Swarthmore were ultimately unable to stage a comeback, falling 51-38.
