No. 9 Men’s Basketball Rallies Late to Sweep Season Series Over Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 9 Swarthmore College men's basketball team rallied late to defeat Haverford College, 71-58, on Wednesday night. The Garnet swept their season series versus the Fords for the team's 14th straight victory over their local rivals.

After struggling in the opening half, the Garnet outscored the Fords 46-24 in the second half. Swarthmore dominated the final 10 minutes of regulation as they outscored their opponent 28-9 to erase Haverford's early advantage.

George Visconti came up huge for the Garnet with a career-high 30 points, while shooting 4-of-7 from three-point range. The senior was also a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line and played a crucial role in the team's second half surge.

Cal Hanson also stepped up for the Garnet with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. The freshman posted his second highest point total of the season.

- The Fords built their lead back to 13 points early in the second half. TJ Chapman then added a timely three-pointer to capture some momentum for the Garnet. Moments later, Hanson provided five-consecutive points with two buckets and a free throw to pull within five points, 45-40.

- Visconti continued to hit big shots for Swarthmore with another three-pointer to pull within four points at the 11:57 mark. Visconti then added a layup later in the half to trim their deficit to two points, while Eddie Paquette gave the Garnet their first lead with an and-one layup at the 7:46 mark.
