Women’s Basketball Takes Down Bryn Mawr, Hayashi Leads Way with Double-Double

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team got back on track with a conference victory over Bryn Mawr College, 56-39, before the team heads into its holiday break. The Garnet will end the calendar year with a winning record in Centennial Conference play with a 3-2 mark.

Alyssa Hayashi set the tone for the Garnet with her second-career, double-double. The junior dropped a season-high 16 points, while matching a career-best 10 rebounds. Hayashi also led the way on the defensive side with five steals.

The Garnet cruised to victory after pulling ahead with a lopsided third quarter, 19-8. Carly Murphy was crucial to Swarthmore's success in the third as she tallied all six of her points in the quarter. Norah Wingfield also contributed six points in the third as she ended the game with nine total.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore fell behind early in the contest until Vanessa Amsinger knotted the game with a layup at the 4:42 mark. The bucket sparked an 8-0 run for Swarthmore after six-straight points from Hayashi. The Garnet headed into the second quarter with a six-point advantage, 14-8.

- Katelyn Becker opened the second stanza with a bucket before the Owls rallied for a 10-1 run to take a one-point lead. The Garnet were able to settle things down as they regained the lead late with a 7-0 swing. Hayashi sparked the rally with a game-tying bucket, while Neve Yair and Elisa Fiore added baskets to aid the team's run. Bryn Mawr added a free throw before intermission to pull within four points, 25-21.

- Swarthmore began to pull away with a big third quarter. Carly Murphy hit a pair of jumpers midway through the third to start a Garnet rally. Murphy added a couple free throws later in the run, while Wingfield added two baskets and Carolina Lopez followed with a layup to cap off a streak of 10-unanswered points. The Garnet held strong for the remainder of the quarter as they exited the stanza with a 44-29 lead.

- The Garnet defense held the Owls in check as they maintained their lead in the fourth quarter. Amsinger, Anna Hansson and Hayashi tallied buckets in the quarter as the Garnet defense allowed just 10 points in the final stanza.
