Griffiths Named Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College Athletic Department is excited to welcome Tara Griffiths as the assistant strength and conditioning coach, announced on Monday morning.

"Throughout the process, Tara's passion for not only coaching, but developing the student-athlete holistically stood out," said Chris McPherson, Director of Sports Performance and Matchbox Fitness Center Coordinator.

"With her well-rounded experience at UT- Arlington, Duke University, Eastern University and as a student-athlete at Ithaca College, I feel very fortunate to have her as part of the sports performance staff here and I'm looking forward to the continued growth that we will have in our department."

Griffiths joins the Garnet Strength and Conditioning staff after spending a year as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas Arlington. While with the Mavericks, she was responsible for program design and implementation for the women's golf, men's golf, and track & field throwers. Griffiths also assisted with training for baseball, softball, volleyball, men's and women's distance runners, and men's and women's track & field.

Prior to joining the UTA staff, Griffiths served as an intern with Duke University Olympic Sport Performance where she assisted with facilitating team training sessions and coaching athletes for lacrosse, tennis, and swimming & diving, wrestling, track & field, cross country, volleyball, field hockey, softball and rowing.

Griffiths also spent a semester as a strength and conditioning intern at Eastern University, where she specialized in training design and implementation for the women's lacrosse program. She also assisted with all other varsity athletic programs while with the Eagles.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining the strength and conditioning staff at Swarthmore," said Griffiths. "I'm looking forward to helping our athletes maximize their potential within their sport and contribute to the welcoming weight-room culture Coach McPherson has established."

A South Jersey native, Griffiths graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning. During her time with the Bombers, she was a coxswain for the men's rowing team and a member of the women's rugby club team. Griffiths also served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative and was a member of the Leadership Academy.

Griffiths plans to complete her Masters of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas Arlington in May 2024.
