Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Swarthmore Falls Short at No. 6 Hampden-Sydney

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The No. 25 Swarthmore College men's basketball team ended the calendar year with a 67-46 loss at No. 6 Hampden-Sydney University on Thursday night.

Vinny DeAngelo led the squad with 17 points as he fought to keep the Garnet in the game. The senior scored Swarthmore's first 10 points of the second half as he helped erase much of the team's deficit out of halftime.

Michael Caprise also scored in double-figures for Swarthmore with 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field. The senior grabbed 11 rebounds for the second-straight contest for his fourth double-double of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tigers raced out to a fast start with a 19-4 run to open the contest. Eddie Paquette provided the Garnet with much-needed points as he cashed in a three-point play at the foul line with 11:05 left.

- Hampden-Sydney continued to pull away with six-unanswered points to take an 18-point lead. DeAngelo then got the Garnet back on track with a three-pointer for his first bucket of the game, while Caprise connected on a hook shot to trim their deficit to 13 points with 4:36 left.

- The Tigers remained in control the entire half as they closed the stanza with a 31-16 lead. Hampden-Sydney won the turnover battle 12-6, while outscoring Swarthmore 28-12 in points off turnovers.

- DeAngelo opened the second half with a three-pointer and a driving layup to pull within 10 points. The Tigers then responded with a floater, before DeAngelo answered right back with a pull-up jumper. The senior wasn't finished as he hit from long range for his 10th point of the half as he came within seven points of the lead with 15:39 left.

- Moments later, Devin Burger hit from deep to make it a six-point game with 13:22 left. However, the Tigers immediately answered with a three ball of their own to expand their lead to nine points, 38-29.

- Hampden-Sydney began to expand its lead midway through the second stanza. The Tigers led by 10 points before using a three-pointer to spark a 12-3 run. Burger would add a three-pointer to get Swarthmore as close as 15 points, but the Garnet were unable to pull any closer.
