SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team held off Washington College, 55-39, to remain perfect early in Centennial Conference play on Tuesday night.

Anna Hansson also contributed to the team's low-post dominance with 16 points and nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neve Yair opened the scoring with a three-pointer after a Hansson assist from the post at the 8:24 mark. After forcing a turnover, Vanessa Amsinger knocked down a long two-pointer to pull Swarthmore within one point at the 5:49 mark.

- Late in the second quarter, Hannson put the Garnet ahead with a fastbreak layup after intercepting a pass at mid-court. Washington answered back immediately with a triple at the other end until Wingfield regained the lead with a corner three after dribble penetration from Hansson, 23-22. The Garnet maintained their lead for the final minutes of play as they carried a one-point advantage into the locker room. Wingfield led all scorers at the half with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field.

- Hansson converted a pair of free throws after grabbing an offensive rebound to open the second half. She then added back-to-back layups on consecutive possessions to put Swarthmore ahead by five points, 29-24.

- Midway through the third quarter, Alyssa Hayashi went coast-to-coast for a three-point play after intercepting a pass at the opposite end. The junior absorbed heavy contact as she banked in a layup before finishing the play with a free throw, 32-24. The Garnet then took a double-digit lead with a long three-pointer from Carly Murphy to take an 11-point lead. Washington began to chip away towards the end of the third quarter as they shrunk its deficit to three points.
