Caprise Leads Charge in Big Second Half versus Washington College, 67-48

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 14 Swarthmore College men's basketball team held strong with a big second half versus Washington College, 67-48, to remain unbeaten early in Centennial Conference play on Tuesday night.

Michael Caprise led the way in double figures with a season-high 23 points with eight rebounds. Caprise was a rock for the Garnet in the second half with 19 points as the Garnet struggled to find scoring early in the second stanza.

Vinny DeAngelo rode a hot start from beyond the arc to a 14-point performance to help pace the Garnet. The senior opened the first half with four three-pointers as he shot 4-of-5 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind early, Vinny DeAngelo helped tighten the gap with a three-pointer to pull Swarthmore within one point. The senior drained another triple moments later to put the Garnet ahead, which sparked a 7-2 run. Devin Burger capped off the rally with a bucket to force a Shoremen timeout, 15-11.

- Out of the timeout, DeAngelo maintained his hot hand with his third triple to expand Swarthmore's lead to seven points. The Garnet then strung together a couple defensive stops before Cal Hanson added a driving layup to prompt another visitor timeout, 20-14.

- DeAngelo got the Garnet back on track with his fourth three-pointer of the half at the 6:07 mark. However, the Shoremen continued to chip away at its deficit as they pulled within a couple points, 25-23. The Garnet maintained their lead for the remainder of the half as both teams battled shooting woes to open the contest, 29-23.

- Caprise made his presence felt down low with a couple tough layups early in the second half. The big man scored his eighth point of the night to strengthen the team's lead to eight points with 15:02 left.

- Caprise and Burger both grabbed offensive rebounds to give Swarthmore a second chance before Burger cashed in for a free throw at the line. Burger then connected with a cutting Caprise for an easy bucket on the following possession, 38-31.

- Following a timeout, Caprise settled down the Garnet offense with a much-needed three-point play. The senior battled through contact as he drained a baby hook off an inbound pass before finishing with another point at the line, 43-35. The big man then drew a crowd on the following possession as he added a pair at the charity stripe to take a double-digit lead with 7:34 left.

- Hanson drained a big-time corner three to put Swarthmore ahead by 13 points with 5:46 left. Nyle Coleman then nailed a triple from the same corner on the team's following possession to help put away the Shoremen, 53-37.
