Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 20 Women’s Soccer Captures Sixth Straight, Remain Unbeaten on Season

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The No. 20 women's soccer team remained perfect in conference play with a 4-1 victory at Ursinus College on Saturday. The Garnet have not suffered a loss this season as they won their six-straight game and improved to 5-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Ava Gizzie, Lauren Lior, Allie Zitelli and Rebecca Putnam each tallied a goal to lead Swarthmore's high-powered offense. First-years Gizzie and Lior built on their outstanding rookie campaigns with their 10th and sixth goals, respectively. Gizzie has scored a goal in nine of the team's 10 games.

Putnam tallied her first career goal in a special moment for the senior defender and her teammates. She was the 12th different Garnet player to score a goal this season.

The Garnet dominated play with a 32-8 shots advantage and registered 17 shots on goal. They also had a 13-2 corner kick advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet created several opportunities early in the opening half, but were unable to capitalize until midway through the half. Gizzie broke through with the opening tally in the 23rd minute with an assist from Lauren Lior. Gizzie and Lior played the ball back-and-forth off a corner attempt before Gizzie fired a strike to the opposite post past the goalkeeper, 1-0.

- After assisting the opening goal, Lior added a score of her own in the 30th minute. Lior came up with a steal around midfield and then elevated a shot past the goalkeeper from 20 yards out, 2-0.

- Swarthmore added to its lead very early in the second stanza when Zitelli scored in the 48th minute. The junior picked up a loose ball on the offensive side and then dribbled through traffic before beating the keeper to the far post, 3-0.

- Ursinus got on the board in the 81st minute with their only goal of the afternoon. Swarthmore then got the goal back two minutes later with a penalty kick goal from Putnam. The senior beat the keeper low to the left side, 4-1.
