SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's volleyball team was defeated by visiting Franklin and Marshall College, 3-1, in a Centennial Conference match on Wednesday night.

The Diplomats took the first set then Swarthmore battled back to even the match at one apiece. However, F&M swung .351 to take the third and the Garnet hit just .125 in the fourth as the Diplomats claimed the match in four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides were tied at three in the opening set when F&M rallied for six straight points to go in front. The Diplomats had three kills and two aces during the stretch. F&M had control the rest of the way as Swarthmore only came within three and the Diplomats earned a 25-18 victory.

- The Garnet bounced back and started the second stanza strong, getting out to a 10-2 lead. Zhang sparked play with three kills and a pair of aces. F&M climbed back to within four but successive kills by Razdan, Alexia Enache, and Angelina Heminway gave Swarthmore some breathing room and the Garnet went on to take the set, 25-18.

- The teams battled back and forth in the third frame and were even at 10 apiece. The Diplomats then took over for good with a 7-1 run. Swarthmore fought to cut the deficit to three (18-15) but F&M finished the set with seven of the last nine to take a 25-17 decision.

- The Garnet aimed to force a decisive set and had a 5-3 advantage in the fourth. However, the Diplomats answered with a 7-1 surge to go ahead 10-6. Swarthmore came within one (11-10) but F&M pulled away again with five of the next six. The Garnet closed the gap to two on multiple occasions late in the stanza but the Diplomats held them off and clinched the match with a 25-21 win.
