Volleyball Completes Five-Set Comeback at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team overcame a slow start as it bounced back from a 2-0 deficit on the road to defeat Muhlenberg College in five sets on Wednesday night.

Muhlenberg cruised to victory in the opening two sets, but were unable to close out the Garnet, who responded with three dominant sets to complete the comeback. The Garnet were aided by a career performance from Trisha Razdan, who tallied a career-best 20 kills with a .514 hitting percentage.

Angelina Heminway also had a career-best effort with six blocks to lead Swarthmore. Kaylee Zhang held down the defensive end with a team-high 25 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Muhlenberg came out firing with a commanding opening set. After a 4-4 tie, the Muhls rattled off four-straight points to create separation. After the Garnet responded with three-straight points, Muhlenberg countered with another four-unanswered to expand its advantage to five points, 12-7. The Muhls maintained their momentum throughout the set with an 8-2 run to end the opening stanza, 25-12.

- After an even start to the second set, Muhlenberg pulled away with 11-unanswered points to take a 18-6 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Garnet countered with a 5-1 run to pull within single digits, but were unable to dig themselves out of a deep deficit, 25-16.

- Swarthmore set the tone early in a must-win third set. The Garnet opened the stanza with a 6-2 run, which featured a pair of kills from both Razdan and Jordan Perry. Swarthmore then continued to add to its advantage with a 9-2 run as they began to put the Muhls away in an elimination set. Razdan closed the set with her fifth kill of the stanza to keep the Garnet alive, 25-10.

- The Garnet picked up where they left off with four-unanswered points to open the fourth set until Muhlenberg countered with five-straight points to tie the game, 6-6. Swarthmore then immediately punched back with seven-straight points to take a commanding lead midway through the stanza, 13-6. Razdan tallied three kills during the team's 7-0 swing, which included consecutive kills to end the rally. The Muhls gave the Garnet some trouble as they tried to close out the set, but Razdan stepped up again with a kill to force a fifth set, 25-19.

- Swarthmore opened the fifth set with a 6-1 run to force a Muhlenberg timeout. The Garnet then responded with three-straight points out of the timeout to put the Muhls in an insurmountable deficit. The Garnet went on to take the closing set on an Alexia Enache kill, 15-5.
