HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither side was able to get anything going in the opening quarter. The Hornets had the lone penalty corner of the period as well as the only shot, which was blocked.
- Lynchburg generated more chances in the second and Conklin had to come up with her first two saves of the afternoon. The Hornets' defense continued to stifle the Garnet and held Swarthmore without a shot.
- Conklin came up with her biggest saves of the game in the third, kicking out a shot then making a stick save on another within seconds. The Garnet came the other way and broke through for a 1-0 lead in the 38
th minute.
Sophia Hitchingham took a penalty corner and passed to
Magdelana Jordan at the top of the circle. Jordan fired a shot and Landry showed great hand-eye coordination, deflecting Jordan's attempt into the back of the cage.
- Swarthmore had an opportunity to make it a two-goal advantage late in the third off another penalty corner. The initial shot was blocked but a scramble ensued in front of the Hornets' cage.
Anna Stancofski batted at the loose ball but the goalkeeper came up with the save.
- In the fourth, another scramble took place in front of the Lynchburg goal early on but the Garnet still could not tally an insurance goal. The Hornets then netted the equalizer in the 51
st minute, smacking a shot from the top right of the scoring area into the left corner of the cage.
- In the extra session, Swarthmore earned a penalty corner but was not able to get off a shot. Lynchburg's first shot of the frame was blocked but the Hornets ended the game less than a minute later. Lynchburg dribbled down the right side of the field and passed into the circle. The Hornets' shot deflected off a Garnet defender and into the cage.
