Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team's three-game win streak came to an end at the hands of Johns Hopkins University, 66-48, on Saturday night.

Nora Wingfield and Dana Bandurick led the Garnet with nine points, while Kim Kockenmeister added eight points with three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Hopkins opened the game with a pair of buckets, Swarthmore answered with a driving Kockenmeister layup and a pair of Caroline Selinger free throws to tie the game. Anna Hansson would later add a pair of free throws and then a layup on her following possession to keep the game tied. The Blue Jays would end the opening stanza with a two point advantage after a layup to end the quarter, 12-10.

- The Blue Jays pulled away with a lopsided second quarter - outscoring the Garnet by 14 points. Swarthmore opened the quarter on a positive note with a Selinger jumper to tie the game, and then a jumper from Bandurick to take first lead, 14-12. The Garnet held the game within a couple baskets up until the halfway point of the quarter when the Blue Jays ended the half with a 15-2 run to take a 36-20 lead into intermission.

- Swarthmore tried to capture momentum in the third quarter with a 5-0 run early in the half. Bandurick split a pair of free throws, followed by a Wingfield layup. Carolina Lopez then came away with a steal, which set up a fastbreak bucket from Bandurick. The Garnet made attempts to chip away at Hopkins' lead, but trailed 57-34 after the third quarter.

- The Garnet scored the opening two buckets of the fourth quarter on layups from Kockenmeister and Bandurick. However, the Jays cruised to victory as they outscored Swarthmore 14-9 in the final quarter.
