Women’s Basketball Falls Short Versus Gettysburg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to Gettysburg College, 58-46, on Saturday afternoon.

Dana Bandurick recorded a season-best 15 points with seven rebounds in her third game after returning from an injury. Norah Wingfield also reached double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Katelyn Becker had a well-rounded game on the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block after earning the start for Swarthmore. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet and Bullets traded baskets early in the contest, before Gettysburg captured momentum with 14-unanswered points. Swarthmore ended the opening stanza on a positive note with a bucket from Wingfield following an offensive rebound, 18-6.

- Becker and Bandurick added consecutive buckets to pull within eight points. Later in the quarter, Alyssa Hayashi connected from deep to shrink the team's deficit to two points. Gettysburg ended the half with four points in the final two seconds to take a seven-point advantage, 27-20.

- Bandurick opened the scoring for the Garnet in the second half with a layup. Becker then added a pair from the foul line to cut the team's deficit to five points with 5:41 left. Wingfield then added a layup on the Garnet's next possession to pull within three points. Gettysburg responded late in the stanza as they built their lead to eight points before the buzzer, 36-28.

- Hayashi and Wingfield added unanswered buckets to open the fourth quarter as the Garnet pulled within four points. After Gettysburg responded with a run, Swarthmore shrunk its deficit back to five points with an and-one layup by Bandurick. However, the Garnet were unable to pull any closer as the Bullets successfully closed out the game.
