SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Matching up well against the number three ranked team in the country, the Swarthmore field hockey team was outdueled by Rowan University, losing 2-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 7th.
 
Playing excellently on defense, the Garnet smothered the otherwise potent offensive attack, holding the Profs, a team that had scored eight goals in their previous outing, to just one point through regulation.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading the way on the field, Swarthmore's goaltending held strong against an onslaught of Rowan shots. Far more bruised when she walked off the field than when she walked on, first-year keeper Cassandra Conklin made 18 saves on the night.

- While the Garnet's defense shone, the offense found its limelight as well. After Rowan's attack was finally able to sneak one by Conklin in the 43rd minute, in minute 44 sophomore Katherine Kohn took full advantage of a perfectly served in penalty corner by senior Martina Kampel, evening the score at 1-all.

- The Garnet did not lack chances to put up more goals on Rowan, with Kohn putting up three shots, senior Quinn Basewitz notching two, and sophomore Sophia Hitchingham, senior Grace Twitchel, and Kampel all tallying one.
