SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Notching their fourth shutout of the season, the Swarthmore field hockey team beat Muhlenberg College 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 28th.
Â
The Garnet dominated both sides of the ball. On offense, Swarthmore put up 14 shots, nine of which were on target, while on defense, first year
Cassandra Conklin stood strong in goal, tallying six saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Â Â Â Â While unable to find paydirt in the first period, the Garnet came roaring out of the gate in the second, scoring their first goal of the night less than two and a half minutes into the quarter. Taking full advantage of a penalty stroke won following a dust up right in front of the Muhlenberg goal, senior
Martina Kampel sent the ball screaming past the keeper for a 1-0 Garnet lead.
-Â Â Â Â Swarthmore's stifling defense kept Muhlenberg's offense in check throughout the contest, only allowing the Mules two shots through the first three periods. While the Mules eventually saw some life with their eight shots in the 4th, Conklin kept her net clean, notching her fourth shutout of the year.
-Â Â Â Â The Garnet extended their lead with just six minutes left to play. Senior
Callie Cho sent a pass from shooting past the defender from midfield to find the streaking junior
Brooke Findlay who expertly outdueled the keeper to put the Garnet up 2-0. This was Findlay's first goal of the season.
-Â Â Â Â The Goals from Kampel and Findlay pushed the Garnet over the top, with Swarthmore taking down Muhlenberg 2-0.Â
