Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women’s Volleyball Dominates Muhlenberg 3-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Securing their second conference win of the season, the Swarthmore women's volleyball team took down Muhlenberg College 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 27th.

Swarthmore dominated both sides of the ball. On offense, the Garnet were led by senior Kaylee Zhang, sophomore Trisha Razdan and junior Dani Pena. Zhang and Razdan put up 13 and 10 kills respectively, while Pena notched 30 assists.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Sarah Carrasco tallied 18 digs, while first year Zindzhi Montgomery blocked three Muhlenberg attacks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Starting off strong in the first set, the Garnet took an early 12-5 lead. While Muhlenberg were able to shrink the margin to 16-12, Swarthmore refused to relinquish the advantage. On the back of a three-headed offensive attack led by Zhang, Razdan and junior Jordan Perry, the Garnet dominated the rest of the period, taking the set 25-16.

-  Kicking off the second set much like the first, the Garnet took an early 8-5 lead before a Muhlenberg rally gave the Mules just their second lead of the match at 9-8. With each team experiencing bouts of offensive success, neither squad was able to meaningfully pull away, leaving Muhlenberg with a slight lead late in the set at 23-21. Spurred on by a Mule attack error however, the Garnet came roaring back, scoring four straight points to take the set 25-23.

- Looking to close out the third set and the match, the Garnet took a fast 7-2 lead. However, not going down without a fight, Muhlenberg rallied back to tie the set at 14 all. While a 7-3 Garnet run widened the margin back to four at 21-17, a bout of Muhlenberg offense tied the set once again at 24-24. Despite failing to capitalize on their first match point at 27-26, the Garnet ultimately closed out the set and the match 29-27.
